Chennai's 16 Assembly Constituencies

Elected MLAs after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

Chennai District elects 16 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. After the 2008 delimitation, these 16 constituencies cover the city and are grouped across the Chennai North, Chennai Central, Chennai South, and Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha segments. In the 2026 Assembly elections (polling 23 April 2026, counting 4 May 2026), the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 14 of the 16 Chennai seats; the DMK retained 2 (Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni and Harbour).

How to Use This Page

MLAs handle a range of constituency-level civic and welfare issues. For most day-to-day issues (water, drainage, roads, garbage), the first port of call is the Greater Chennai Corporation helpline (1913) or the Namma Chennai app. For escalations, or for issues that span agencies, the MLA's constituency office can be effective. Practical pointers:

  • Find your constituency: Use voters.eci.gov.in to confirm which Assembly constituency your address falls under. Locality is a rough guide; constituency boundaries do not always match neighbourhood names.
  • Visit in person: Most MLA offices have scheduled grievance hours (often two to three times a week). Carry a written summary of the issue and any supporting documents.
  • Letter-based escalation: A signed, dated letter (with copy retained) often gets logged and tracked more reliably than a phone call.
  • RWA channel: Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) often have a direct line to the MLA office. For estate-level issues, going through the RWA can speed things up.
  • Parallel routes: For grievances that cross state and central jurisdiction (railways, immigration, central PSUs), pair the MLA letter with a parallel letter to your Member of Parliament (MP).
