Ponneri
Ponneri is a historic town and taluk headquarters located about 35 kilometres north of Chennai in Tiruvallur district. The name derives from "Pon Eri" (golden lake), reflecting its agricultural prosperity built around tank irrigation. The town is an important administrative centre with a sub-registrar office, taluk office, and revenue courts. Connected by the Chennai suburban railway extension and NH-5 (now NH-16), Ponneri serves as a gateway to the Pulicat Lake bird sanctuary and is witnessing gradual urbanisation as Chennai expands northward.
