Little Mount derives its name from the small hillock where, according to tradition, St. Thomas the Apostle took refuge from persecution in the 1st century AD. The Church of Our Lady of Health at Little Mount is one of Chennai's most important pilgrimage sites, attracting devotees of all faiths. The neighbourhood sits along the arterial Mount Road (Anna Salai) between Saidapet and Guindy, and the Little Mount Metro Station on the Green Line has made it a key transit point in the city's expanding metro network.
