Adyar Banyan tree also known as Adyar Aala maram, is located in the campus of Theosophical society, in Adyar, Chennai. This tree is around 450 years old and is one of the largest banyan trees in the whole world. The main trunk of this tree was uprooted by a big cyclone in 1989 and the branches are the only thing that is surviving till today along with a small portion of the main trunk. The tourists are allowed to see the offshoots that is pread all around the. The banyan tree has no death, it goes on. The present area is 62, 000 sq ft. such a big banyan tree on the seashore is very rare,” said General Manager, Theosophical Society, Harihara Ragavan on Monday (October 21).

The Old Banyan Tree is geographically located at latitude (13.0113 degrees) 13° 0′ 40″ north of the Equator and longitude (80.2676 degrees) 80° 16′ 3″ east of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Chennai.
